The Centre for Sleep & Human Performance is a state-of-the art medical facility devoted to the expert evaluation, diagnosis and management of sleep disorders located in Calgary, Alberta. The Centre’s mission is to provide expert medical care in a community-based setting.

This full-time position (40 hours/week) works closely with the Medical Director and Centre physicians to support an interdisciplinary approach to the diagnosis, management and treatment of sleep disorders and to improve patient and community education.

Role Responsibilities

The Behavioral Sleep Medicine Specialist works with patients, families and the community to educate individuals on sleep disorders, treatment optimization, methods to improve and monitor compliance with prescribed treatment, good sleep hygiene, and, in general, assists patients in eliminating barriers to care to maximize their quality of life.

Knowledge of communication/education techniques such as (CBTi) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, motivational interviewing and the principles of mindfulness-based stress reduction would be an asset.

Role Competencies

  • Highly analytical with excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills working in a team environment
  • Knowledge of communication/education techniques for teaching such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and the principles mindfulness-based stress reduction.

  • Knowledge of sleep tests/tools used to diagnosis, evaluate and monitor sleep disorders; maintain knowledge of clinical care trends and standards of practice

Qualifications

  • Current registration/licensed Registered Psychologist or RN with 3-5 years of demonstrated related experience, Naturopathic Dr., Allied Health Care Professional, Respiratory Therapist, RSPGT, Certified Respiratory Educator
  • Maintain current CPR
  • Clear criminal record check (less than 3 months old)
  • Proficiency in Health Suite or similar EMR software would be an asset; Microsoft office suite and the ability/interest to learn new programs specific to the business.

Sleep Technologist – Research

We are looking for a Polysomnographic Technologist (certified or not certified) to work in Dr Dang-Vu's sleep laboratory based at PERFORM and the IUGM research centres in Montreal (QC). We investigate the brain mechanisms of sleep and sleep disorders, and the role of sleep in cognitive health. For more information on our research, see https://scnlab.com/. Position Description:

  • You will perform polysomnographic sleep studies in adults (18-85 y.o.)
  • You will be in contact with research participants with a variety of sleep disorders as well as healthy research participants
  • You will prepare participants and monitor them during polysomnography studies, including overnight studies.
  • You will address technical or recording issues that may arise during the procedures and participate to research protocols in coordination with research assistants, students and researchers involved in the sleep studies.
  • You will perform scoring of polysomnographic studies (including sleep stages, microarousals, cardio and respiratory events, etc.)

  • Ability to work with research protocols
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset
  • Enthusiasm for learning

Job Type: Full-time or at least 21 hours/week. Contract for 1 year, renewable, with 3 months’ probation period.

Nous recherchons un technologue en polysomnographie (certifié ou non) pour travailler dans le laboratoire du sommeil du Dr Thanh Dang-Vu, MD, PhD, basé dans les centres de recherche de PERFORM et de l’IUGM, à Montréal (QC). Notre groupe étudie les mécanismes cérébraux du sommeil et des troubles du sommeil, ainsi que le rôle du sommeil dans la santé cognitive. Description du poste:

  • Vous réaliserez des enregistrements de polysomnographie chez des adultes (âgés de 18 à 80 ans).
  • Vous serez en contact avec des participants souffrant de divers troubles du sommeil et avec des participants en santé.
  • Vous préparerez les participants et surveillerez les tracés pendant les enregistrements de polysomnographie, y compris pendant la nuit.
  • Vous résoudrez les problèmes techniques ou d’enregistrement pouvant survenir et participerez aux protocoles de recherche en collaboration avec les assistants de recherche, les étudiants et les chercheurs impliqués dans les différents projets de recherche.
  • Vous effectuerez le scoring d'enregistrements de polysomnographie (y compris les stades du sommeil, les micro-éveils, les événements cardiaques et respiratoires, etc.).
